Pharmacotherapeutic Management of the Post-MI and Post-Stent Patient

Credit Hours: 1.75  |   Fee: $45.00

** This course is closed and can be accessed by existing registrants only. **

Coronary artery disease remains the major cause of death for men and women in the United States. Prevention of recurrent coronary events is dependent on appropriate drug therapy in patients who have had acute coronary syndrome. Effective drug therapy decreases the risks of recurrent events, hospitalizations and cardiovascular death. Patients who have undergone percutaneous coronary interventions with stent deployment are at risk for recurrent coronary events and in-stent thrombosis. This course reviews the multiple pharmacologic interventions to prevent recurrent coronary events in this population of patients, with emphasis on dual antiplatelet therapy.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the risks associated with patients who have experienced a myocardial infarction or undergone PCI;
  2. State the therapeutic objectives for post MI/ post PCI patients;
  3. List ACC/AHA guideline recommended pharmacotherapy for post MI/ post PCI patients;
  4. Describe how patient and agent related variables effect therapeutic recommendations in post MI / post PCI patients; and
  5. Identify monitoring parameters for therapeutic efficacy and toxicity for the agents used in post MI/post PCI patients.
